Hiking Visitors
Thale is a wonderful base for a hiking trip. The city is situated at the northern edge of the Harz – at the start of the famed ‘Harzer Hexenstieg’ trail, which stretches on for 100 km to Osterrode.
The Bodetal or Bode Gorge ends in the town, while the Selketal valley is only a few kilometres away.
There are many signposted trails for day-long walks all around Thale. The most attractive route is along the Bode Gorge between Thale and Treseburg (approx. 12 km). Another popular hiking route leads along the Teufelsmauer rock formation, which stretches for 20 kilometres between Blankenburg and Ballenstedt.
Hiking maps and other information are available from the hotel. The staff of the Bodetal Tourist Information Centre will also be happy to answer any other questions you may have.
Other popular walking routes in the local area can be easily reached by public transport – our guests travel free of charge.
